Škocjan nature park

Length: 3000 m
Depth: 144 m
Duration of tour: 1 ura 30 min
The Škocjan Caves is one of the longest cave systems in Slovenia and certainly the most famous complex of caves in the Karst. The whole cave system was formed by the Reka River, which you will see repeatedly when crossing the cave. The track through the cave has been paved and lightened along its entire length, which makes it suitable for tourist visits. As a true natural gem on planet Earth, the Škocjan Caves were put on the UNESCO list of natural heritage in 1986.
The entrance to the cave is located in Škocjan Park, an area that has been known for its natural beauty and breath-taking vistas for centuries. The cave is 6200 m long, and its altitude at its deepest point is 223 meters above sea level. On the length of 3km that has been adapted for sightseeing, we will descend down to 144m below the surface. Throughout the journey, you can observe world-famous cave phenomena created by the river slowly seeping through the surface rock and by humidity and mixing of inner and outer air. On our way we will cross the river via bridges and observe waterfalls of up to 30m high by way of which the river disappears into the underworld. Some of the major attractions of this place are the proteus and large colonies of bats.
